The Work

In the ‘Community’ series, humans/figures are dwarfed by an enlarged landscape . The tables have been turned  as nature is again the dominating force where the figures are presented as intrepid explorers,  defensive crowds or ant like energies evading capture or destruction.

In the ‘Monkey’ series, each portrait depicts a monkey/ape /chimpanzee, recognizable but altered in some way . In the monkey painting ‘ Trees’,  a forest is growing out of its face, it is becoming part of the landscape, disappearing into the fabric of the earth.  In ‘City’ skyscrapers and towers rise out of the face, it is becoming part of man’s plan, its architecture  and in ‘Lace’ monkey, it’s almost disappearing behind a pattern of vegetation, hiding from viewers  or potential threats. In the  ‘human’ monkey series , each one has been given a human name. It is presented in a formal portrait pose each face full of  human like expression.  They are realistically depicted  but have added unexpected  physical elements, lumps, bumps , feathers, long ears etc . All of these are an imaginative  exploration  of how man’s intervention could affect such a wondrous, complex and ancient animal.
